SPDC is assisting several localities with EPA required Lead Service Line Inventories. The purpose of each inventory is to attempt to calculate the number of lead service lines in a given municipal water system. Lead service lines are the lines that connect a house or business to a main water line along the street. Service lines are small, and for our area include a portion owned by the water system (system or town side) and a portion owned by the home or business owner (customer side.)
All of the towns we have worked with, as well as other surrounding towns that we have had conversations with, have reported no lead service lines. The chance of a lead service line in place in this area is quite low. There are a small number of galvanized lines remaining, although most have been replaced over the years. Galvanized lines are considered as "Galvanized Requiring Replacement" if it cannot be determined that the system side of the service line was never made from lead.
SPDC is acting as a consultant providing various services regarding these required inventories. Depending on the locality, this may include scanning and reviewing old maps and engineering documents, GIS mapping of customer locations, submitting inventories to EPA's online database, preparing lead service replacement line plans, and mailing notifications.
