Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, beginning at 12:00 p.m. by the Southside Planning District Commission (SPDC) in the conference room of the SPDC office building, located at 200 S. Mecklenburg Avenue, South Hill, Virginia.
The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments on the 2025-2030 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) update. The CEDS serves as the SPDC’s regional strategic plan in accordance with § 15.2-4209 of the Code of Virginia.
Interested parties may appear at the above time and place to express their views on the matter. The 2025-2030 CEDS may be viewed online - click here. A hard copy of the plan will be made available upon request. The Southside Planning District Commission is in the process of updating our Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), and by extension, updating our state required Regional Strategic Plan as well. This combined document is required to be updated at least every 5 years and provides the District with a blueprint for regional collaboration to achieve economic development goals through a strategy-driven approach.
In accordance with 13 C.F.R. § 303.6(b)(2) and § 15.2-4209(C) of Code of Virginia, notice is hereby given that the public, local governments, and other interested parties are extended an opportunity to review and provide comments on the Southside PDC 2025-2030 CEDS. In an effort to address the opioid epidemic affecting Southside, Virginia, the Southside Planning District Commission (SPDC), on behalf of the counties of Brunswick, Halifax, and Mecklenburg is requesting proposals from one or more qualified local organizations to implement opioid abatement strategies in the region.
