The Halifax County Trails, Bicycle & Pedestrial Plan was prepared by Southside Planning District in February of 2004, in cooperation with Halifax County, the Town of South Boston, the Town of Halifax, and Virginia Department of Transportation. This plan provides an evaluation of conditions and resources and makes recommendations to enable the county and its towns to improve bicycle, pedestrian, and other trail facilities.

The Lake Country Bicycle, Pedestrian & Trails plan was prepared in 2007 by SPDC, in cooperation with Brunswick County, Mecklenburg County, and the Virginia Department of Transportation. This document set forth strategies to develop a network of on-road bicycle routes and off-road multi-purpose recreational trails within Brunswick and Mecklenburg Counties.
